Industry Services and Benefits

The Mdu System brings significant benefits to the homeowner and also to those working in the construction industry. Whether you are designing buildings, supplying materials, builders and tradespeople, inspection and maintenance companies and the regulators of the industry - The Mdu System provides a method to measure the weathertightness performance of buildings - throughout their lives.

Intergration of the Mdu System into Industry
The Mdu System can be applied right throughout the timber-framed building industry - delivering benefits to the homeowner and industry at the professional and global levels. The Mdu System/Industry model below provides a way for the Mdu System to integrate into the building industry.

The data collected as part of the Mdu System allows accurate analysis to be carried out on the weathertightness performance of different building designs, building details, methods and products. This information can then help guide the industry towards better weathertightness practices in a timely fashion, and provide real-time feedback of the performance (or underperformance) of some building aspects.

All Mdu Probe readings and associated construction details are collated into the Mdu Database. This enables all readings to be statistically analysed for measuring the weathertightness performance of different building details. Analysis can be done for a single point in time, or over a period of years. Building construction details collected include:

Home Inspection Companies

Home Inspection Companies will have access to the Mdu System and be able to recommend the subsequent installation of the Mdu System after performing a visual inspection. Mdu Probes identify internal leaks that are not yet visible and therefore hard to find during visual inspection - so is an excellent method to reduce future liability. The Mdu System is a new tool to conduct deep-surface testing upon which provides a more thorough assessment of building moisture.

Opportunities exist for Inspection Companies to become licensed Mdu System installers, have access to Mdu System technology and Database and become associates for Project M.

Building Surveyors

Building Surveyors will have access to the Mdu System and be able to include them in their expert inspections. Mdu Probes identify internal leaks that are not yet visible and therefore hard to find without destructive testing - but may already be causing damage. The Mdu System is a new tool to conduct initial testing upon which expert assessments can be written. The Mdu System helps target where destructive testing may be required. This reduces the impact of moisture testing on houses - and eliminates the stigma and extra repairs to fix those holes.

Opportunities exist for Building Surveyors to become licensed Mdu System installers, have access to Mdu System technology and Database and become associates for Project M.

Maintenance and Repair Companies
Maintenance Companies greatly benefit from using the Mdu System as part of their maintenance and repairing process. The Mdu System can:

Reduce the need for destructive testing
Provide a system to isolate and eliminate potential leak sources one-by-one
help diagnose maintenance requirements
Monitor effectiveness of repairs
Verify to your clients the success of your work

The Mdu System can also find HIDDEN problems the homeowner is not yet aware of, so your company can act quickly in the interests of your clients and save them from costly repairs in the future. The earlier a problems found the easier it is to fix.

Councils

The Mdu System installed in a building can provide an excellent method for Council Inspectors to assess whether the moisture levels inside the walls complies with the Building Act as part of their current inspection processes. Up until now the last moisture reading Council Inspectors could take was at pre-line - before the gib is installed. Now Council have a post-line inspection tool that can access many areas that are traditionally difficult to inspect. Moisture Content levels are important as treated timber must not be above 20% (NZS 3604).

Architects

Architects now have a tool they can specify to be installed at construction that will help determine quality of build. This way the architect can determine the house has been built in a professional, weathertight manner and deliver peace of mind to their clients. The Mdu System's on-going monitoring program will ensure the buildings are correctly maintained and fault-free into the future.

Builders

Builders can install the Mdu System as a quality control measure, to ensure the work done by sub-trades is up to scratch. The Mdu System is a way a builder can police the many people on the job. It is a final measure of performance and crucial before any sign off of work. It further provides clients peace of mind and minimises forward liability.

Disputes Resolution

Disputes Resolution can be aided by the factual data provided by the Mdu System. Whether it is to clarify repair work quality or determine if the building complies with the Building Act, the factual, repeatable readings from the Mdu Probes are powerful evidence if you are involved in disputes.
